What We Do

Falcon Racing is a Baja SAE team operated by undergraduate students at Seattle Pacific University, WA. As a team we test, design, manufacture, and build a single seat off-road vehicle equipped to compete in harsh conditions. We as a team push ourselves to better our understanding of engineering and solve multidisciplinary issues in STEM and business.

How We Compete

SAE Baja is a college level student competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). As a team, we produce a vehicle to compete in static events and dynamic events. Every team is given a set of design requirements such as what engine we must use, and what safety factors we must achieve. Beyond these requirements the vehicle can utilize any features of our choosing.

Static Events

Static events are any events that do not require the car to move. These include a cost report, technical inspection, and design presentation.

The most competitive static event that occurs is the business presentation. Where SAE Baja provides a prompt of requirements, and as a team we design and sell our vehicle (or a variant of said vehicle) as a product to a “board of investors”.

Dynamic Events

Dynamic events test the capabilities of each team’s vehicle. The primary events are a maneuverability course, an acceleration track, and a hill climb or sled pull event.

These events lead to a final race referred to as the “endurance race.” A race that every competing team takes part in to score as many laps as possible through the rough track terrain and extensive time of 4 hours.
