Sustained vigorous exercise or a significant fever can raise the temperature by about 1 degree Celsius. The amount of extra thermal energy required to raise the temperature of a 60 kg person by 1 degree Celsius is about 210,000 Joules.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"206\" height=\"116\" src=\"https:\/\/scholars.spu.edu\/seeley\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/05\/Formula-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-751\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order for the person to have that much kinetic energy they would need to be moving at a speed of 84 m\/s or 187 mph. About the speed of a formula 1 racecar!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/scholars.spu.edu\/seeley\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/05\/Empire-State-Building.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-750\" width=\"110\" height=\"165\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In order for the person to have that much gravitational energy they would need to climb to a height of 357 meters. About the height of the empire state building!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So&#8230; an amount of energy that is just barely perceptible as extra thermal energy is dramatically obvious as kinetic or gravitational energy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"203\" height=\"160\" src=\"https:\/\/scholars.spu.edu\/seeley\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2020\/05\/Half-Penny.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-749\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While this seems like a lot of kinetic and gravitational energy it is surprisingly inexpensive.
