{"id":678,"date":"2016-08-15T10:18:12","date_gmt":"2016-08-15T10:18:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/digitalobby.spu.edu\/writingprogram\/?page_id=678"},"modified":"2023-08-04T19:04:35","modified_gmt":"2023-08-04T19:04:35","slug":"wri1100-syllabi","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/scholars.spu.edu\/spuwriting\/faculty-resources\/course-design\/wri1100-syllabi\/","title":{"rendered":"1100 Syllabus Template and Sample Syllabuses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For use in planning your course, here is a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/scholars.spu.edu\/spuwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2019\/09\/WRI-1100-Syllabus-Template.docx\">WRI 1100 Syllabus Template<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This template is bare bones. \u00a0It needs to be adapted to fit the needs of your course. \u00a0There are a number of areas in it highlighted in <strong><span style=\"color: #99cc00\">green<\/span><\/strong>. \u00a0Those are the places that need your personal touch: the course description, the outcomes, the calendar, the assignments. \u00a0These areas are\u00a0where you can create excitement for research and excitement for the course. \u00a0These areas are where you can establish not only the problem your course will be addressing but also the urgency of that problem&#8212;what&#8217;s at stake, why we should care about it. \u00a0As faculty prepare their course, they are encouraged to work closely with their disciplinary librarian. Librarians visit each section of WRI 1100 2-3 times per quarter.<\/p>\n<p>All courses adhere to the same <a href=\"https:\/\/scholars.spu.edu\/spuwriting\/wri1000-1100\/course-outcomes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">outcomes<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/scholars.spu.edu\/spuwriting\/course-standards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">standards<\/a>, but course themes and readings vary. \u00a0Below are some sample syllabi:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scholars.spu.edu\/spuwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/08\/Koskela-WRI-1100.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WRI 1100 syllabus<\/a>, as taught by Dr. Doug Koskela,\u00a0a theology professor. \u00a0This section explores the significance of place within the Christian life.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scholars.spu.edu\/spuwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/08\/Plett-WRI-1100.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WRI 1100 syllabus<\/a>, as taught by Dr. Melani Plett,\u00a0an engineering professor. \u00a0This section studies alternative energy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scholars.spu.edu\/spuwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/08\/McFarland-WRI-1100.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WRI 1100 syllabus<\/a>, as taught by Dr. Ben McFarland, a chemistry professor. \u00a0This section studies how scientists adapt their writing for different audiences and different disciplines.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/scholars.spu.edu\/spuwriting\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2016\/08\/Willett-WRI-1100.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">WRI 1100 syllabus<\/a>, as taught by Dr. Mischa Willett, an English professor. \u00a0This section studies how one writes criticism about the arts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For use in planning your course, here is a\u00a0WRI 1100 Syllabus Template.
