Journal #6

Producing this paper was easier than I initially anticipated. There was so much material to dig through in Wallace’s essay so that made it easy to support a variety of claims, and find a level of cohesiveness throughout the smaller arguments to form a longer piece of writing.   Drafting this paper was different than the shorter papers in that I had more room to expand upon a complex argument in response to a very complicated topic. A problem I ran into, that I haven’t encountered previously, was that of having too many claims I wanted to elaborate on. I initially had more than one thesis running throughout my paper, which sparked confusion in readers. It was odd having more to write about and more paths to explore, because usually in writing for school the essay or piece of writing becomes so stale and picked over that it becomes hard to keep interest and have that show through in writing.  For the next major paper, I want to keep in mind the idea of “old-new contract” that we talked about in class, because I definitely think my writing can be too confusing at times in terms of sentence structure and ideas. I also hope to work on providing a clearer analysis and use a reader’s perspective to gain insight.
