Writing 1000

Hello, and welcome to my Portfolio for Writing 1000. On this page you will find some examples of my best work that I have produced this quarter, accompanied by my reflections about the different habits of mind that make for effective academic writing.

Often times, college writing courses have a reputation of being uninformative and generally inapplicable to classes outside of the English department. However, throughout the course of this quarter we have explored concepts and patterns of thinking that encourage a heightened sense of awareness when reading and writing that are essential skills in any context. The four major outcomes we have examined are rhetorical knowledge, critical inquiry, process, and conventions. By reading the work of others actively and through the lens of critical inquiry, I have become proficient in applying rhetorical knowledge and proper conventions through my own writing process. I have chosen Short Paper 1.2 “Inspiring the Cynics of America’s Tomorrow”, Major Paper 1 “The Conventionality of Anticandidates”, and Short Paper 2.2 “Deciphering Dimitradis” to demonstrate my understanding of the four course outcomes and showcase my competence as an academic writer.
