Mechanical Subsystem Overview

The mechanical team designed and implemented the solar panel fixture, solar panel stand, and rotation system on this project. The solar panel stand is made out of aluminum and can be easily mounted to the roof of a sleeping cabin or tiny home. Using thrust and radial bearings, the solar panel is able to rotate when driven by a stepper motor in order to follow the sun throughout the day. The solar panel fixture is also made out of aluminum and connects the solar panel to the rotation system. The solar panel angle is also able to be adjusted via the panel fixture in order to account for where in the U.S. the users may be.
