Our Team

Danielle Johnson – Project Manager

Danielle is a dedicated, hardworking 4th year Mechanical Engineering student with a demonstrated history of taking initiative in order to achieve her goals. Being a problem solver at heart led her to study mechanical engineering and develop an interest for the thermal sciences and how to apply her technical knowledge to solve real world problems. She currently works at HNTB corporation in Bellevue, WA as a Mechanical Engineer Intern in the Mechanical and Fire Life Safety department. She works specifically on HVAC and tunnel ventilation design projects. In her spare time she enjoys challenging herself in other ways and getting outdoors through her participation and leadership on the SPU rowing team.

Sammy Tessema – Computer Lead

Sammy will graduate from Seattle Pacific University in the spring of 2022 with a Computer Engineering degree. Coming into SPU he was initially a Pre-Med student, but after taking a problem-solving programming course he quickly fell in love with the idea of everything about computers. He had no coding experience or any idea how a computer worked, which made him work even harder. He enjoys learning new things every day and continuing to work on his skills. Outside of class work he enjoys any physical activities and spending time with family and friends.

Karl Hynden – Mechanical Lead

Karl will graduate from Seattle Pacific University in the spring of 2022 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Appropriate and Sustainable Engineering. He enjoys learning and is fascinated by how things work, so the challenge of engineering excites him. He is eager to deploy the leadership and problem-solving skills he has learned to accomplish meaningful work. He doesn’t need to change the world, but is committed to utilizing his degree in a way that loves people well. Outside of the classroom, he is dedicated to friends, family, and leadership in college ministry. He also enjoys the outdoors: hiking, sitting by a campfire, skiing, and playing golf.

Logan McCabe – Electrical Lead

Logan is a 4th year studying at Seattle Pacific University pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering by the spring of 2022. He is also working towards a minor in Business Administration. Having a unique business background coming into the engineering industry will allow him to better understand the perspective of the customer, facilitating more effective communication and a better project design end result. His work as an intern for Puget Sound Energy allowed him to understand how to work within professional engineering teams. He had the opportunity of working for the Generation Electrical Controls team and even traveled to the Fredonia Power Plant in order to help with the transformer maintenance testing on units from the 80’s!

Jacob Encinas – Integration Lead

Jacob is a 4th year student pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Growing up in Beaverton Oregon, his enjoyment of physics and math grew throughout his years in high school as a student and peer tutor. His love for puzzles and problem solving, in addition to the many hours spent building mechanical devices from junk found in his garage, made mechanical engineering the easy choice moving on to college. His growing love for all engineering disciplines and design work, as well as his drive to learn, has led him to be a team Lead for the Baja SAE, as well as a crucial member in both his junior and senior design teams.
